JAMES CASTLE STEVENS
James Castle Stevens is the Artistic Director of Theatricus, a nonprofit performing arts collective dedicated to developing and presenting new theatrical work. As a director, he has staged more than two dozen productions at venues across Southern California, including The MAIN Theatre in Santa Clarita, Santa Paula Theater Center, Ojai Art Center Theatre, Elite Theatre Company in Oxnard, Camarillo Skyway Playhouse, the High Street Arts Center in Moorpark, and the Glendale Centre Theatre. Through Theatricus, he works to create opportunities for playwrights, actors, directors, and designers to collaborate on the development of new plays and staged readings.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Stevens studied acting at Brooklyn College and began his career as a performer before gradually shifting his focus toward directing, writing, and producing. His years as an actor continue to shape the way he approaches theatre, with an emphasis on listening, collaboration, and actor-driven storytelling.
Stevens also heads the VOX NOVA Playwright Festival, an initiative of Theatricus dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights through readings and productions of new work. In addition to directing, he has written for the screen and now the stage; his original play Still Life in Central Park had its World Premiere in 2026. Outside of theatre, he works as a creative director, which also informs his approach to visual storytelling and production.
